ORIENTATION AND BEGINNING INSTRUCTION

INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS

Orientation to Practice is a three-hour program that introduces newcomers to zazen as practiced by the Honolulu Diamond Sangha. We also offer Introductory Workshops, extending over two days, which cover the usual orientation topics in greater depth and detail.

Participants are shown how to do zazen. They are introduced to a variety of sitting postures and helped to find a posture that works for them. Leaders introduce the forms of Zen practice, such as kinhin and the sequences of bells and clappers that signal the beginning and end of periods of zazen. Participants do zazen together and have opportunities to ask questions.
